Recommended setup. A separate dedicated domain for short links (e.g.
go.yourbrand.com) — keeps dashboard URLs clean and avoids any chance of an app route colliding with a slug.
Each domain plays one of three roles

Same domain serves both. App routes win, the rest are slugs.
How to add one
Open Settings → Domains.
Add the host you want to use.
Pick its role.

A or CNAME?
Use A records pointing at our IP — simpler than CNAME and works for apex domains (yourbrand.com) and subdomains (go.yourbrand.com) alike.
Don't proxy it. If you're using Cloudflare, set the DNS record to "DNS only" (grey cloud), not proxied (orange cloud). TLS provisioning needs a direct connection to verify the domain.
Hosting requirement
Dashboard role (and "Both") need an active hosting plan — that's what unlocks running your dashboard at a custom domain. Short-link-only domains don't require hosting.
